If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that you don’t need to go far to have a great vacation. The UK has numerous beautiful locations to explore, all situated on our very own doorstep.
Read on for our list of reasons why we think you should consider a staycation when it comes to your next trip away.
I’m sure you’ve heard the term time and time again this year but just in case it’s passed you by, it might help to know exactly what a staycation is. Essentially this is a vacation that you take in your home country or local community as opposed to abroad.
Should you decide to travel within your local area, you have a number of accommodation options available: Hotels, Camping, Glamping or Caravanning. All are great options for very different reasons and you have to choose which one is right for you.
Whatever your choice here are some of the reasons why we think you should take a staycation for your next vacation:
Now if you’re more of a hotel staycationer then this first top tip may not apply, but in the long run investing in your own tent, caravan or motorhome will definitely reduce your costs of this holiday and holidays yet to come.
Airfare can be incredibly expensive, especially when travelling abroad. You also have to pay for hotels, food and transportation to get you around your travel destination. If you’re travelling with your family, it doesn’t take long for these costs to add up.
When you holiday in your own caravan, motorhome or tent, your costs will be lower.
Your room will already be taken care of, and it’s a lot cheaper to buy food supplies from a local supermarket than a restaurant. You can even buy in bulk to make sure you have enough to feed everyone. Perfect for families on a budget.
With Covid-19 still raging through Europe and heavily impacting all countries globally, creating so many unknowns, travelling abroad comes with more risks than staying at home. Not to mention the impact of a 2 week quarantine on the return home. If you’re looking for a way to keep your family safe, then staying close to home is your best option.
You’ll be able to get out and have some fun, but you’ll also be able to maintain your distance from others. Self-contained accommodation is the perfect answer if safety is your primary concern. Once again, tenting, caravanning or motor homing are the perfect choices however glamping or other self-contained accommodation such as luxury static holidays are great options here. These options mean you won’t have to come into contact with anyone outside of your bubble and you’ll be able to relax and enjoy yourself that much more.
Taking your pet on a plane or a train is possible, but it’s a huge hassle.
Should you decide to leave them at home whilst you holiday, then you need to make other arrangements. This might include boarding them or hiring a pet sitter.
Either of these options can be expensive as well as causing stress and anxiety for both you and your beloved pet.
To make it easier on everyone, a caravan or camping adventure would be the perfect solution.
Holidays are a lot more fun when every member of the family gets to go. When you have a caravan, you have enough space to accommodate your pets and your family. You can also choose to go to places that are pet friendly.
This alleviates the guilt of having to leave your furry friend behind and lets you know that they are safe.
Planning a holiday abroad takes a lot of time and effort, not to mention the faff of exchange rates and making sure you have enough of the right currency for what you want to do once you get to your destination. Issues of sorting travel insurance and any necessary injections if going further a field can also be anxiety inducing.
If you’re staying local, you won’t have to spend as much time planning, worrying about currency, insurance or any other concern interwoven with travelling abroad. In fact you may decide on a whim to head out and be ready to go in a few hours. You won’t have to agonise over travel bookings or stick to a tight schedule. There’s much more flexibility and spontaneity that adds to the excitement of the adventure.
We constantly here Rishi Sunak and Boris Johnson bang on about this desired ‘bounce back’ that – fingers crossed – the UK will experience post pandemic. A key factor for this is the boom of the staycation. Not only can taking a staycation holiday save you money but it also benefits the local economy.
With the toll the pandemic is taking on small businesses and towns, you can help make a difference.
Whether you are paying a fee to park your caravan in a campsite (like our own here at Riverside), buying food at the local market, or getting souvenirs from the shops, you’ll be making a contribution to the economy and making life better for everyone.
After months and months of staying inside this year getting out into the fresh open air is the best cure for any cabin fever you might be experiencing. Going on holiday is a great way to reduce stress. With so many things happening in the world that are outside our control, it doesn’t take long to feel overwhelmed. This can lead to much more dangerous effects for mental health and wellbeing.
Studies have shown that taking time to get away from your normal daily life is incredibly beneficial.
Heading out on a staycation will give you the opportunity to connect with nature, and this may be just what you need to recharge and feel better.
